Bobby and I wake up on a lazy Sunday morning, still whirling with excitement from the wedding we photographed the night before. Before diving into a week editing by the glow of a computer screen, we decide to head to the Maryland Renaissance Festival for some fun with our friends Christine and Oney. Yay!!!
Located just outside of Annapolis, MD, the Renn Fest is an annual tradition that spans back a generation now. The outdoor grounds are completely transformed every fall, taking you back in time as you stroll along wooded paths checking out this quaint little village.
Ahhhh, just what we needed. With a Bee Sting in our hands (a delicious mix of mead and hard cider), good friends, and great entertainment, we wander, taking it all in...
One of the great draws of Renn Fest is the fabulous entertainment. Familiar faces line the stages spread throughout the village. Clown friends! Doing their thing, outside! Mark and Sabrina of Happenstance Theater, Matthew Pauli of Clown Cabaret, Jonathan Burns of Flexible Comedy, and a terrific comedy acrobatic group called Barely Balanced. LOVE IT ALL!
With the second Bee Sting going to our heads, we saunter over towards some sustenance, turkey legs! Bobby handles this like a pro, while I look around for some boars' hair I can fashion as floss. Man, those things are tough to eat! But soooo good!
Feeling completely relaxed and very far away from the flurry of 21st century living, we watch the people pass by. Lemme tell you, there is no shortage of cleavage walking around this place. Get ready to see some corsets hanging on for dear life, and a good deal of man flesh.
Elephant and camel rides, jousting, walk-around characters, and musical acts....never a dull moment. We run into Rich Potter from Clown Cabaret and a family we did photos for this summer, looking sharp in their Renn Fest duds. Great to see so many familiar faces in the village!
Christine and I jones over some incredible hand-made masks and hats, while Bobby and Oney people watch. After we tear ourselves away, it's time to head home. What a perfect Sunday, don't miss Renn Fest!
