I wake up on this sunny, September morning, to help my brother-in-law get ready to marry his partner of ten years. The sun is already warm, at this early hour. But, it seems fitting that it should be a warm one; the grooms met and lived for many years in Mississippi, where the summers show no mercy. Today, after devoting a decade of their lives to one another, Michael and Patrick say "I Do" and begin the next chapter of their journey together.

After living in three states where they were denied the right to marry and experiencing the pains of discrimination, this couple decided to make Maryland their new home. Maryland, where voters said "YES" to the right for equal love, and the decision stood firm. Today, these two men will become lawfully wed at the district courthouse. Our family comes together to witness the bond of two people who show new meaning to the virtues charity and kindness.

So deserving of celebration are these two men, who bring love and laughter with open hearts, to most everyone they meet. Since moving to Maryland last spring, Michael and Patrick have made a home with the family at Clydes Tower Oaks Lodge and quickly become two of their most valuable employees. It is that family, along with ours, who hold up these two today, enjoying delicious food, a beautiful reception, and wishing them nothing but the best.

Mikey and Pete, all my love to you! May your journey be filled with joy and laughter.
