Bobby and I believe in the power of the great outdoors. Whenever we need a re-charge we hit the road and head somewhere quiet. When mom, Renee, wrote me looking for photojournalistic family photos, it seemed like a perfect fit for an adventure. Pack a lunch, throw on some jeans, and bring the dog. What I love about lifestyle photography is that is shows a family as they truly live: in ponytails and plaid.

New parents, Renee and Josh, moved to the DC area from Wisconsin a few years ago, and as Renee puts it were dying to get out the city for a day. Bobby and I meet them at Patapsco State Park, where 14 month-old Manny greets us with a huge grin (which proves to be his trademark). His four-legged pal, Jake, clearly the first baby of the family, is ready to RUN!

After several handfuls of blackberries and lots of fetch with Jake, we get Manny suited up to head into the woods. Off we go! Where? Well, we're not sure. Ha! We find our way through the nuances of all Patapsco has to offer, including some dead ends, until we find it, the swinging bridge!

As we climb, we pass a local who tells us about a tire park. What could this be? A playground made entirely out of old tires? Gotta check it out!

Unfortunately, Jake has to wait, so we don't keep him long...

As we walk back down towards the train tracks, the sun is setting so beautifully through the trees. The crisp autumn air huddles the little quartet together. It is such a treat to get to spend time with families this way, in all their Sunday afternoon perfection.
